Islamic StoriesA man of Allah should never buckle under the unjust and oppressive pressure which his wife or even mother may apply in a bid to gain fulfillment of their haraam desires. Hadhrat Sa'd (radhiyallahu anhu) who was a senior Sahaabi was most obedient and kind to his mother. He was always engaged in serving his mother. When he embraced Islam, his mother became extremely annoyed with him. She threatened to commit suicide by starvation if he does not abandon Islam. She told him that if she had to die in this manner, all people would regard him as being her murderer.

When Hadhrat Sa'd (radhiyallahu anhu) refused to heed her command, she commenced her hunger strike. On the second day of her hunger strike, Hadhrat Sa'd (radhiyallahu anhu) said to his mother:

"O mother! Even if you have a hundred lives and give up one life at a time until all of the hundred lives have died (in your effort to get me to abandon Islam), I shall never abandon it. "

When his mother realised his firmness and the futility of her act, she abandoned her hunger strike.

Attributes of the Ulama-E-Soo'

Hadhrat Ali (radhiyallahu anhu) said:

"O Ulama! Act in accordance wiih your knowledge. Only he who practises on the knowledge he has acquired is an Aalim, and in whose knowledge and practice there is no conflict.

Soon there will arise such people who will have knowledge, but their knowledge will not descend lower than their throats. There will be conflict between their baatin (inner self) and zaahir (apparent). Their deeds will be the opposite of their knowledge.

They will organise gatherings and vie with one another. They will become annoyed with people who leave their gatherings and attend the classes of others. The deeds of such people do not reach Allah Ta ala. "
